Eiji Sumi

Eiji Sumi was born in Tokyo in 1970. Graduated from Rikkyo University , also known as St Paul’s University in Tokyo. Sumi moved to New York in 1994 where he pursued his career in art and design. His mixed media approach explore a lot of research in materials, contexturizing digital media into various form and ideas. Using combine method into various experiencing art installation, variety of experiments in environment probing the relationship between art and science how art and science capture and contain contemporary understanding.

He has worked in New York as artist assistant for Stefano Castronovo, Italian master painter who painter Andy Warhol’s Iconic Leather Jacket of Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat also commissioned by various clients in design including Duncan Quinn, Nike, Asahi and The Maritime Hotel amongst others. 

During his time in New York, Sumi gained attention with his projects ranging from mixed-media and light installations to painting and drawing, He has held numerous exhibitions internationally, and has been curated by Eric Shiner, the current director of the Andy Warhol Museum, and Helen Wu, the producer and co-curator of Paper Rain Parade seen in Art Basel Hong Kong, Brian Curtain, art writer and curator and curatorial team by Jim Thompson Art Center in Thailand. Sumi moved to Bangkok in 2013, and is a lecture in Chulalongkorn University’s International Communication Design Program(CommDe), part of the university’s Faculty of Architecture.
