Alan Kwan

Alan Kwan (b.1990) is a media artist and filmmaker based in Hong Kong. He started making short films at the age of 9, and some of his works have been awarded and showcased at various film festivals including International Video Art Festival Camaguey, Hong Kong International Film Festival and Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards (ifva). In late 2011, he was invited to attend the Asian Producer’s Lab at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival in Korea. After over 10 years of filmmaking experience, he also started to bring invention ideas from film to real life.
Being heavily inspired by films Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind, he started his research in immersive systems for virtual mindtrip and lifelogging. He has been building a database of his virtual memories since November 2011 by rigging custom lifelogging video camera to his glasses. His latest virtual reality installation Bad Trip, which allows people to travel in his memories, was recently showcased at media art festivals in Germany, Argentina, Canada, and Australia, and also featured in various media including Discovery Channel, WIRED, Tech in Asia, Mercedes-Benz Magazine, Canal+ and The Creator’s Project.
